Question 1

Can you make a car key without the original?

Accepted Answer

Yes. We read the key data from the car (or decode the lock), cut a new blade and program the new key to the immobiliser on site. You don't need the original or a spare.

Question 2

How long does it take to replace a lost car key?

Accepted Answer

Most lost key jobs take 30–90 minutes once we're with the car. A standard transponder key sits at the quicker end; keyless, smart and prestige systems that need module or EEPROM work take longer. Add our usual response of around an hour to reach you, and most drivers are back on the road the same day without the car ever being recovered.

Question 3

Will my lost key still work if someone finds it?

Accepted Answer

Where the vehicle allows, we remove lost keys from the car's memory at the same time, so they can no longer start it.

Question 4

What do I need to show you?

Accepted Answer

Proof of ownership, such as the V5C logbook, plus photo ID that matches it. This protects you and stops keys being made for cars that aren't yours.

Question 5

What is EEPROM programming?

Accepted Answer

On some vehicles the key data can't be reached through the diagnostic port, so we read and write it directly on the module's memory chip. We back up the module data before making any changes.

Question 6

Can you do prestige makes like BMW, Mercedes-Benz and Land Rover?

Accepted Answer

Many models, yes – including some all-keys-lost jobs that need module work. A few newer systems are restricted, so we confirm what's possible from your registration before coming out.

Question 7

Can you copy any car key?

Accepted Answer

We can make spares for the vast majority of cars, vans and keyless vehicles on UK roads. Give us the registration and we'll confirm.

Question 8

How long does a spare key take?

Accepted Answer

Usually 20–60 minutes at your car. We copy the blade, program the chip and pair the remote buttons while you wait, then test locking, unlocking and starting with both keys before we leave. Because you already have a working key, a spare is quicker and cheaper than replacing a key once every one has been lost.

Question 9

Will the remote buttons work on a spare?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Remote lock and unlock buttons are paired to the car and tested with you before we leave, alongside the immobiliser chip that lets the engine start.

Question 10

Is it worth getting a spare key?

Accepted Answer

Yes. A spare is typically £150–£290, while replacing a lost key when you have none left is typically £200–£450.

Question 11

Do you do spare keys for fleets and vans?

Accepted Answer

Yes. We cut and program spare keys for vans and fleet vehicles, and can handle several vehicles in one visit to keep downtime low.

Question 12

Can you repair a broken key or fob instead of replacing it?

Accepted Answer

Often, yes. We test it first and repair, re-case or reprogram it where possible before suggesting a replacement.

Question 13

Can you unlock my car without damage?

Accepted Answer

Yes. We use specialist non-destructive entry tools, so we open doors or boots without breaking glass, bending frames or damaging seals.

Question 14

A child or pet is locked in the car – what should I do?

Accepted Answer

If they are in danger, call 999 immediately. Otherwise call us and we'll prioritise you.

Question 15

Do you open vans and commercial vehicles?

Accepted Answer

Yes. We open most vans and commercial vehicles without damage, including Transit, Sprinter, Vivaro, Transporter and Trafic models, and can match keys to separate load-area locks where needed.

Question 16

Why won't my key turn in the ignition?

Accepted Answer

Usually a locked steering column, a worn key or worn wafers inside the barrel. We diagnose it on site and explain the fix before starting.

Question 17

Can you repair an ignition rather than replace it?

Accepted Answer

In many cases, yes – which is usually cheaper. Where possible we match the barrel to your existing key.

Question 18

Can you remove a key stuck in the ignition?

Accepted Answer

Yes. We release a key stuck in the ignition without damaging the key or the barrel, then check why it stuck – usually a worn key or worn wafers – so it doesn't happen again.

Question 19

Do you fix ignition damage after a theft attempt?

Accepted Answer

Yes, and we can provide paperwork for your insurer.

Question 20

How much does a car key cost?

Accepted Answer

Lost keys are typically £200–£450 and spare keys £150–£290. Vehicle entry is from £120 (Mon–Fri 9am–5pm); price increases out of hours. The range reflects the level of security and the key system on your vehicle. A standard transponder key on an older car sits at the lower end; proximity/keyless, smart keys and prestige or module-level immobiliser systems sit at the higher end. A fixed price is always confirmed before the job once we have the vehicle details.

Question 21

Will you tell me the price before you start?

Accepted Answer

Always. A fixed price is confirmed once we have your vehicle details – no surprises.

Question 22

Is an auto locksmith cheaper than a main dealer?

Accepted Answer

Usually, yes. We come to the car, so there's no recovery truck to pay for and no waiting days for a key to be ordered in. You get a fixed price before we start and the key is cut and programmed the same visit. A dealer may still be needed for a few newer restricted systems – we'll tell you upfront if that applies.

Question 23

Do I need to bring the car to you?

Accepted Answer

No. We're fully mobile and do the work wherever the car is – home, work, car park or roadside.

Question 24

How quickly can you get to me?

Accepted Answer

Most callers are reached in around 1 hour, Mon–Sun, 8am–10pm. Exact timing depends on where the car is and the day's jobs, so we give you an honest arrival window when you call and keep you updated if anything changes. Lockouts with a child or pet inside are prioritised – if anyone is in danger, call 999 first.

Question 25

Which areas do you cover?

Accepted Answer

Portsmouth, Southsea, Cosham, Havant, Waterlooville, Portchester, Fareham, Gosport, Lee-on-Solent, Hayling Island and Emsworth – all of PO1–PO17. We also cover the wider south coast including Southampton and Bournemouth.

Question 26

Which makes do you work on?

Accepted Answer

Almost every car and van on UK roads, including prestige makes. If yours isn't listed on our site, call with the registration and we'll confirm.

Question 27

What are your opening hours?

Accepted Answer

Mon–Sun, 8am–10pm.

Question 28

How do I book?

Accepted Answer

Call 023 9299 0167 for the fastest response, or send a quote request through the site and we'll call you back.

Question 29

What information do you need when I call?

Accepted Answer

Your registration, where the car is, and what's happened (lost keys, spare needed, locked out and so on). That's enough for us to confirm a price.
